Why a W MI business is using hemp to build homes
THREE RIVERS, Mich. (WOOD) — A West Michigan-based business working to build homes using hemp is receiving more than $15,000 from a state pitch contest.
At the NextCycle Michigan Summer Showcase, an initiative from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, 17 teams pitched projects related to things like recycling and composting. Hemp for Humanity won the $10,000 Food, Liquids & Organic Waste Systems (FLOWS) Best Pitch Award, along with the $500 FLOWS People’s Choice Award. Each of the 17 teams also received $5,000 in Harvest Grant funding.
“I’m very grateful. Grateful to God first of all,” Cody Ley, the founder of Hemp for Humanity, told News 8. “That was an awesome experience to be a part of and just being around so many likeminded individuals who see the bigger picture and are trying to promote and create a circular economy.”
