As we prepare for the defense of the International Residential Code Appendix submission for Hemp-lime (Hempcrete) Construction, we need your support to show the community behind the initiative. If you want to help the submission, please send us a letter of support. Here is the basic setup of support letter:
1st paragraph: Tell us who you are including any kind of educational or occupational experience related to hemp building. This is where we need to wow people with your expertise and credentials, but even if you don’t have a lot here, any support is helpful.
2nd paragraph: Tell us your opinion of the IRC submission and why you are supporting it.
Use company letterhead if it seems appropriate. You can review the submission here. Please email letters of support to Jacob@ushba.org.
To Whom it May Concern,
I’ve been in the building industry for 20 years, initially as a commercial construction manager in the hospitality sector, and now as the owner of Perennial Building, a general contracting firm in Central Oregon focused on hemp-lime construction. I made the transition to hemp-lime construction due to the numerous health and environmental benefits hemp-lime has over traditional construction. The use of hemp-lime also comes at a critical time when our region is facing the threat of wildfires every year and the fire-resistant properties of hemp-lime will help buildings and communities be more resilient in the face of this threat.
Perennial Building has built a 200-sf hemp-lime building, as well as a hemp-lime sauna. We are also currently working with our building department to build a 3,400-sf mixed use hemp-lime building in the central business district of the town we are based out of.
I fully support the Hemp-Lime IRC submission. It is a collaboration of experts in the field of hemp-lime and addresses hemp-lime installation standards. Incorporation into the IRC will allow for widespread use of this material without having to go through an alternative material approval process to get a building permit. It is also important to have these standards incorporated into the IRC so building departments have the guidance necessary to ensure hemp-lime is installed properly, which will be critical for the success of this industry.
Thank you for your consideration to incorporate the hemp-lime appendix into the IRC standards
Thank you Karen this is perfect.
